Haas confirms its 2027 signing

In a team announcement dated October 14, 2026, TGR Haas F1 Team confirmed that Rafael Câmara will make his Formula 1 debut with the American outfit in 2027. The agreement is multi-year. The announcement settles the identity of Esteban Ocon’s replacement after Haas and the French driver confirmed their end-of-season split on September 30.

The timing makes this a confirmed driver-market development rather than another candidate report. Haas can now plan for 2027 around a rising junior driver, while Ocon continues the final races of his current contract.

The numbers behind Câmara’s promotion

Câmara leads the 2026 FIA Formula 2 championship with 207 points and two rounds remaining, according to Haas. He has three Feature Race victories — in Spain, Belgium and Azerbaijan — together with six podiums and five pole positions. He arrived in Formula 2 after winning the 2025 FIA Formula 3 championship.

The 21-year-old has been part of the Ferrari Driver Academy since 2021. His path gives Haas a driver already familiar with Ferrari’s development environment and a recent record of adapting quickly to new categories. His Formula 2 title, however, is not yet secured; the remaining rounds still matter.

Why Haas was convinced

Haas evaluated Câmara in August during a Testing of Previous Car session at Portimão, where he drove the VF-25. Team principal Ayao Komatsu highlighted more than outright speed: the team was impressed by how quickly Câmara learned the car and worked with the engineers during a limited test window.

That is relevant to the 2027 transition. Junior-category results identify potential, but a Formula 1 seat also demands technical feedback, preparation and consistency across a full race weekend. The Portimão test gave Haas direct evidence of those qualities, although it cannot predict his rookie results.

What happens to Ocon and Bearman?

Ocon’s Haas exit remains scheduled for the end of the 2026 season. He has said he wants to remain in Formula 1 and would consider a reserve role if a race seat does not become available. His 2027 destination has not been announced.

Oliver Bearman is the incumbent on the other side of the Haas garage. Reuters reports that Câmara will partner Bearman in 2027. The October 14 Haas announcement confirms Câmara’s contract; it does not, by itself, serve as a separate formal announcement of every seat in the 2027 lineup.

Why the announcement matters before Austin

The confirmation arrives ahead of Haas’s home Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas on October 23–25. It clarifies the team’s longer-term driver planning without changing its 2026 race lineup: Ocon and Bearman remain responsible for the current campaign.

Câmara also gives Brazil another expected representative on the 2027 grid alongside Gabriel Bortoleto at Audi. For Haas, the immediate question is how it closes out 2026; the 2027 question shifts from who gets the seat to how quickly the incoming rookie can integrate.

Paddock Command assessment

This is a material update to the existing Ocon driver-market story, not a reason to publish a near-identical second article. The vacancy that was open on October 1 is now filled by a confirmed multi-year signing. Ocon’s next move remains unresolved, and the team’s 2026 Austin performance should be judged separately from its 2027 recruitment decision.
