Verstappen converts Sprint momentum into a milestone pole

Max Verstappen will head the qualifying classification for Sunday’s Singapore Grand Prix after setting a 1:31.373 at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. The Red Bull driver beat Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc by 0.054 seconds and claimed the 50th Grand Prix pole position of his Formula 1 career. It follows his Singapore Sprint pole on Friday and victory in Saturday’s rain-hit Sprint, continuing the momentum established by his Grand Prix win at Sepang.

Ferrari splits the front rows with Mercedes

Leclerc delivered his fastest Q3 lap when it mattered, securing second in 1:31.427. Lewis Hamilton was third in the other Ferrari on 1:31.496, 0.123 seconds behind Verstappen. Hamilton had set the pace in both Q1 and Q2, but the final segment belonged to Verstappen. Leclerc reported brake-related difficulties earlier in the session; the final margin underlines how little separated the leading cars.

Antonelli fourth as Russell faces a difficult Sunday

Championship leader Kimi Antonelli qualified fourth in 1:31.562, 0.189 seconds from pole. George Russell was sixth on the qualifying timesheet in 1:31.747, behind Lando Norris in fifth. Russell’s previously confirmed power-unit grid penalty is a separate matter: the qualifying order is not the final starting grid, and the applicable penalties must be reflected in the official Sunday grid. Antonelli leads Russell by 89 points, 325 to 236, following the Sprint; qualifying awards no additional points.

McLaren and the midfield

Norris secured fifth for McLaren, while teammate Oscar Piastri was seventh after the pair’s last-lap contact in the Sprint. Pierre Gasly took eighth for Alpine, with Racing Bulls drivers Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad completing the top 10. Red Bull’s Isack Hadjar failed to record a qualifying lap and appears as RT in the official classification; any resulting grid disposition requires official confirmation.

What the session means for Sunday

Verstappen has the fastest qualifying lap and a Ferrari directly alongside him, while Hamilton and Antonelli are immediately behind. Ferrari’s two top-three qualifying positions create a strong opportunity to challenge Red Bull at the start. Verstappen’s difficult launch in the Sprint is a reminder that pole does not guarantee control of the opening lap. The Grand Prix is scheduled for Sunday, October 11, at 20:00 Singapore time over 62 laps, subject to official race-control updates.
