Formula 1 has locked in its 2027 roadmap

Formula 1 and the FIA have confirmed the 2027 World Championship calendar following approval by the World Motor Sport Council. The season contains 24 Grands Prix across 22 countries and five continents, while the Sprint programme expands from six weekends in 2026 to a record 10 in 2027.

Pre-season testing will take place in Bahrain from February 24–27. Bahrain then opens the championship on March 12–14, followed by Saudi Arabia. Abu Dhabi closes the season on December 10–12.

Paddock Command watch pointThe Grand Prix count remains 24, but the number of competitive sessions increases materially because 10 weekends now include a Sprint and Sprint Qualifying.

Portugal and Türkiye return

Portugal returns at Portimão on June 18–20, following Monaco and preceding the British Grand Prix. The Algarve circuit last hosted Formula 1 in 2021 and brings major elevation change and a flowing technical layout back to the calendar.

Türkiye returns at Istanbul Park on October 1–3, subject to FIA circuit homologation. Its placement creates an Azerbaijan–Türkiye–Singapore triple-header. Istanbul Park last hosted Formula 1 in 2021.

Ten Sprint weekends reshape the season

The 2027 Sprint venues are Bahrain, Australia, Japan, Canada, Monaco, Great Britain, Italy, Brazil, Qatar and Abu Dhabi. Bahrain, Australia, Japan, Monaco and Abu Dhabi will host the Sprint format for the first time.

Formula 1 says total viewership of Sprint weekends has been 12% higher than conventional weekends, while Sprint Qualifying can attract up to three times the audience of the practice session it replaces.

Monaco becomes the standout Sprint experiment

Monaco is the most intriguing addition. The narrow street circuit already makes qualifying position unusually important, and the Sprint format will give drivers two separate qualifying sessions plus two competitive races across the weekend while reducing conventional practice time.

Madrid returns for year two

Spain remains at Madring on September 10–12, one week after Monza and two weeks before Baku. The 2027 visit will be Formula 1's second race at the Madrid venue, giving teams their first opportunity to return with a complete Grand Prix baseline.

How the calendar flows

The championship opens with Bahrain and Saudi Arabia before Australia, Japan and China. Miami and Canada follow before the European phase begins with Monaco. Portugal returns in June, followed by Silverstone, Austria, Spa and Hungary before the summer break.

Monza restarts the championship in September, followed by Madrid and Baku. Türkiye and Singapore complete the next phase before Austin, Mexico City, São Paulo and Las Vegas. Qatar and Abu Dhabi close the season in December.
